Social Sciences

Social issues are complex and multidimensional, thus trying to understand, organise and possibly change them is a challenge requiring the involvement
of various scientific disciplines.

The interdisciplinary programme of Social Sciences at University of Szczecin includes various perspectives: political science and security studies, sociology, cultural studies, pedagogy, media studies as well as economics, psychology and international studies.

In the teaching model that we offer, students work with teachers and researchers from various fields of study. We focus on various phenomena that make up
a contemporary social life, such as: culture, politics, economics, social research, communication, Europe, research theory and practice, history, sustainable development, labour market, etc.

Undoubtedly, one of the most important competences on the modern labour market is to have knowledge and skills to solve key social problems. They can be obtained thanks to interdisciplinary studies in Social Sciences, and knowledge of English terminology will be an additional advantage in their case.

Studying Social Sciences is a response to the challenges of the future society, and in particular to the need to select a reliable and truthful message in a world of excess of information (often false or contradictory).

The acquired skills enable the graduates to take up employment, e.g. in:

  • self-government and government administration units (mainly in departments dealing with relations with civil society organisations, social affairs, promotion)
  • administration and edition of social media, mass media and publishing houses
  • institutions working with civil society organisations
  • promotion and marketing departments of private companies

For Polish-speaking students, the Social Sciences course is an educational offer that allows them to broaden their language skills, giving them direct contact with English literature and thus developing their communication skills in English.

The studies of Social Sciences in English are the basis for the activity of continuous improvement of knowledge and competence in the interdisciplinary dimension.
