On 11–12 May 2026, the Institute of Sociology at the University of Szczecin hosted an international working meeting the COST Action “Rethink Blue”, devoted to the theme The Impact of Cultural Heritage of Marine Areas on the Sustainability of Ports.
The two-day meeting brought together researchers from several European countries working on issues related to maritime heritage, port sustainability, and blue economy governance. Discussions focused on the development of a joint research paper, including its theoretical framework, methodology, comparative research design, and preliminary findings from case studies.
Participants included professors: Klodiana Gorica (Albania), Ermelinda Kordha (Albania), Sanja Kovacic (Serbia), Zacharoula Kyriazi (Ireland – online), Ioannis Katsounis (Greece), Colette Szczepaniak (Poland) and Maciej Kowalewski (Poland) Alongside presentations and methodological discussions held at the Institute of Sociology and Dom Skandynawski in Szczecin, the meeting also created an opportunity for international academic exchange and strengthening research cooperation within the COST network.
The event formed part of ongoing international collaboration aimed at rethinking the role of marine cultural heritage in sustainable coastal and port development.
