The purpose of this Action is to rethink the Blue Economy, in two ways: (1) by assessing its impact on coastal societies, and (2) by exploring opportunities deriving from innovations and potential synergies between established and emergent marine activities.

An important part of the project is sociological research on the maritime economy, maritime professions and port cities. Researchers from Institute of Sociology, University of Szczecin: Prof. Agnieszka Kolodziej-Durnaś, Prof. Arkadiusz Kolodziej and Prof. Maciej Kowalewski – are in Working Groups (WGs) responsible for this part.

Professor Maciej Kowalewski has been nominated by the Minister of Education and Science to represent Poland on the Management Committee (MC) of the COST Action.

COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) aims to create networking and cooperation opportunities for researchers, in order to strengthen Europe’s ability to face scientific, technological and social challenges. In particular, COST finances the coordination and management of networks, known as COST Actions, which are collaboration networks of researchers from different countries, who implement research work on a similar subject.
