The UNESCO Chair for Social Sustainability at the Doctoral School, University of Szczecin is organizing an international seminar on May 17 entitled ‘Future of Open Education’.

Threats to global peace, climate change, growing inequality, health problems and economic crises cannot be solved without a new open model of research and teaching. We are striving for an open approach to education in which learning is not always monetized and in which more than one vocation can be supported. New tools are already within our reach: open data platforms, artificial intelligence, generative machines – these are key elements of the emerging educational environment.

During the seminar, researchers from South Africa, Indonesia, India Egypt, Georgia and Poland we will cover the following topics:

  • What is the role of new technologies and algorithms in creating access to knowledge?
  • How do we understand the future of open education – under pressure from nation-states, corporations and international organizations?
  • How do we envision social justice in conjunction with access to education?
